Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 500 to750 grams mutton
  2. 1cup Bengal gram
  3. 1 cup Masoor dal
  4. 1/2 cup Urad dal
  5. 1/2 cup Moong Dal
  6. 1/2 cup whole moong, broke
  7. 1/2 cup Toor dal/Arhar Dal
  8. 1cup wheat porridge
  9. 1/2 cup rice
  10. 2-3 tbsp oil
  11. 2tsp pure ghee
  12. 3 big onions
  13. 2 tbspn ginger garlic paste
  14. 1 tspn garlic crushed
  15. Salt to taste
  16. 2 Green chillies as per choice
  17. 2 tsp red chilli powder Kashmiri
  18. 1 tbsp n turmeric
  19. 1 tbsp Cumin coriander powder
  20. 1 tbsp garam masala powder
  21. 3-4 cloves
  22. A bunch of fresh mint leaves
  23. 2 -3 fresh lemon
  24. 1 cup golden fried onions

Instructions

  1. Keep all ingredients ready before you start making your dish Khichda
  2. First step soak the dal mix overnight
  3. Soak wheat porridge separately overnight
  4. Soak rice half hour or so
  5. Start with washing both dal, rice and porridge separately, also boiling separately
  6. Add a bit of salt in porridge boil 3-4 whistles pressure cook
  7. Add salt,turmeric and soaked rice to the dals and boil 4-5whistles pressure cook
  8. Chop 2 onions fine and grate the other keep ready.
  9. Saute onions chopped till pinkish brown &add the grated onion to these saute well
  10. Add ginger garlic paste, the seasoning and the mutton and roast well for 5 minutes
  11. Remove the dals &rice from cooker and mash with spatula
  12. Remove porridge from cooker and mash a little to see if done
  13. Mix the two, the dal rice mix and the porridge well
  14. Add this mix to the cooking mutton as it's almost done
  15. Sprinkle some garam masala mix well, cook for ten minutes on slow flame stirring well.
  16. Switch of the flame transfer to serving bowl
  17. Now heat some ghee and freshen the golden fried onions.
  18. Add as garnish on the ready khichdi, some fresh mint leaves and golden fried onions
  19. Garnish and serve
  20. Keep sliced lemon in a bowl and serve hot
