Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/2 cup - Dhuli moong dal (soaked for 4-5 hours)
  2. 1 1/2 litter - Full fat milk
  3. Few saffron threads
  4. 4-5 - Green cardamom crushed roughly
  5. 3 tsp- khus khus (soaked for 4-5 hours)
  6. 1/4 cup - Makhane
  7. 3/4 cup - sugar
  8. 2 tsp - Desi ghee
  9. 2 tbs - Finely chopped pistachio for garnish
  10. 1/4 tsp - Green cardamom powder to sprinkle


  1. Take 1/2 litter milk in a pan, add crushed whole green cardamom and saffron threads in it and boil. Add soaked moong dal and khus khus in it and cook on low heat. When dal and khus khus gets cooked properly switch off the gas and keep the pan on the counter to cool.
  2. Once the mixture gets cooled, grind it in the mixer to make a thick paste.
  3. Now heat some desi ghee in pan, add makhane in it and fry lightly. Take them out in a plate and in the same pan add moong and khus khus paste to it and keep frying till a pleasant aroma starts coming. Add remaining milk gradually and continue to stir.
  4. When the kheer starts to thicken add sugar and stir to dissolve. Add roasted makhane in it and cook.
  5. Once you get the required consistency, switch off the gas and transfer the kheer in a serving bowl. Decorate with some finely chopped pistachio and sprinkle some green elaichi powder over it. Keep it in the fridge to set.
  6. Serve it chilled.
