ABOUT Uppudu Pindi RECIPE

Uppudu pindi is an authentic meal of Telangana region of Andhra pradesh served mainly for breakfast.In olden days uppudi pindi was prepared with broken rice,the rice that was broken while husking.Nowadays it is made with coarse rice raw and at times with rice flour as well. Uppudu pindi is type of upma made using rice rava but slightly a dry version.This can be served for breakfast or as a light meal for lunch or dinner. We prefer eating it with pickle and yogurt.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup : Rice rava
  2. 2 cups : Water
  3. 3 tbsp : Oil
  4. 2 tbsp : Chana dal
  5. 1 tbsp : Urad dal
  6. 1 tsp : Mustard seeds
  7. 1 tsp : Cumin seeds
  8. 4 nos : Dry red chillies broken to pieces
  9. 1 medium : onion sliced
  10. Few curry leaves
  11. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a kadai add oil .Once hot add in the mustard and cumin seeds allow them to crackle. Add in the chana and urad dal. Saute them until golden.Stir in the curry leaves, broken red chilies, sliced onions.
  2. Fry until onions sweat a bit and turn pinkish. Next add the water, cover and bring this to a boil. Add in the salt. Stirring constantly add the rice rava.
  3. Give a good stir, cover with the lid and cook on medium heat until most of the moisture is absorbed. Stir again, reduce the heat to low and cook further for 5 more minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat and let it sit for sometime or serve right away. Tastes best with pickle and yogurt.
