Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 cup - Moong dal
  2. 1 Cup - Milk
  3. 1/2 Cup - Pistachio (chopped)
  4. 1/2 Cup - Almonds (sliced)
  5. 5 tbsp - Green raisins
  6. 1 Cup - Sugar
  7. 1/2 Cup - Ghee
  8. 2-3 strands - Saffron
  9. 1 Cup - Water

Instructions

  1. Wash moong dal and drain all the water, make sure it is dry.
  2. Heat a pan, add 1/4 cup of ghee and when it melts add the dal. Roast till the colour changes to golden brown. Strain the excess ghee and keep aside. Let the dal cool a little bit and grind into a paste.
  3. Heat the strained ghee in a pan and roast the dry fruits in it. Remove them when done but retain the ghee. Add the moong dal paste and roast for a few minutes. Add saffron and milk and cook some more. Add 1/2 cup water and mix properly.
  4. When the water gets absorbed add 1/2 cup of water again and keep mixing. Add two tbs of ghee and sugar at this point. Mix well.
  5. Add rest of the ghee, mix for five more minutes, keeping the flame low.
  6. Once moong dal has absorbed all the ghee add the nuts and mix. Let this cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Turn off the flame, spoon the delicious halwa in a bowl, garnish with dry fruits and serve.
