Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chola daal - 150 grams
  2. Oil - 4 tsp
  3. Zeera - 1 tsp
  4. Heeng powder - 1/2 tsp
  5. Onions - 1 finely chopped
  6. Ginger garlic and green chilli paste - 5 tsp
  7. Puree of 2 tomatoes
  8. Tamarind paste - 2 tsp
  9. Curd - 3 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  11. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp


  1. Wash and soak chola dal in water for 30 mins. Drain excess water and pressure cook the daal till one whistle in some water with 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and a pinch of salt. Drain excess water and keep the dal aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add zeera and heeng when it splutters add onions and fry till transparent. Add ginger, garlic and green chilli paste saute till oil separates.
  3. Add tamarind paste, curd, tomato puree, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and saute for 5 mins. Add boiled daal and saute for 5 minutes.
  4. Chola daal masala is ready to serve.
