ABOUT Data Aloo diye Chingri machher Jhol RECIPE

A pure Bengali dish , a very light prawn curry with vegetables . Very less spices are used in this, normally we get " data " in summer season only."Data " in English called " stem Amarenth"Prawns or shrimps both can be used in this delectable dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Data or Stem of Amaranth cut in 1 inch size 2 cups
  2. Potato cut in slices 1
  3. Prawns medium sized 7-8
  4. Onion 1 julienned
  5. Ginger 1/2 inch optional
  6. Powdered spices :
  7. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  8. Cumin powder 1/2 tsp
  9. Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  10. Chill powder 1 tsp
  11. Salt as per taste
  12. Mustard oil as required
  13. Coriander leaves 1/4 cup

Instructions

  1. Cut data shak and potato
  2. Heat oil in a nonstick pan, add chopped onion and ginger, saute until translucent in medium heat.
  3. Add sliced potatoes, fry them lightly in low heat , add turmeric powder , jeera powder , dhania powder, chilli powder and salt
  4. Now add data, saute for 2-3 minutes in low heat
  5. Cover with a lid, cook in low heat for 4-5 minutes
  6. Now add water, 1 1/2 cup, cook the vegetables in low heat for 10 mins approximately with a lid
  7. Was and devein prawns , pat dry, now marinate with turmeric powder and salt, rest for 15 minutes
  8. Heat oil in another frying pan in high heat, stir fry prawns both sides until red
  9. Now add fried prawns to the gravy, boil in the gravy in medium heat for 5-8 minutes
  10. Check for salt , switch off gas
  11. Add chopped coriander leaves
  12. Serve hot with plain white rice
