Dabeli, a spicy potato mixture combined with onionss, garlic chutney, sweet chutney, spiced masala, peanuts and fruits like pomegranates and grapes...how can the equation go wrong!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the stuffing
  2. 1 1/2 tbsp dabeli masala, readily available
  3. 2 tbsp sweet chutney
  4. 1 tbsp oil
  5. 1 1/4 cups boiled, peeled and mashed potatoes
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 2 tbsp finnely chopped coriender
  8. 2 tbsp grated coconut
  9. 2 tbsp fresh pomegranate(anar)
  10. Other ingredients
  11. 4 dabeli pavs
  12. 4 tbsp garlic chutney
  13. 2 tbsp sweet chutney
  14. 4 tbs finely chopped onions
  15. 4 tbs masala peanuts, readily available
  16. 4 tbsp nylon sev
  17. 2 tbsp butter for cooking
  18. For the garnishing
  19. 2 tbs nylon sev
  20. 1 tbs tutti fruity


  1. Combine the saheli masala, sweet chutney and a little water (approx 3 tbsp) in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Heat the oil in a non - stick pan, add the prepared haveli masala mixture,mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously.
  3. Add the mashed potatoes, salt and a little water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for another 2 to 3 minutes,while stirring continuously.
  4. Remove from the flame, transfer in to a plate and press well with the back of a spoon.
  5. Sprinkle the coriander, coconut and pomegranate on top. Keep aside.
  6. How to procced
  7. Take a pav and slit it on two sides at right angle.
  8. Apply 1 tbsp of liquid garlic chutney and 1/2 tbsp of sweet chutney evenly on the inner sides of the pav.
  9. Stuff with 2 tbsp of stuffing and top with 1 tbsp of onions, 1 tbsp masala peanuts and 1 tbsp of sev.
  10. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make 3 more dabeli.
  11. Just before serving, cook each dabeli on a hot tawa (griddle) for a minute using a little butter.
  12. Serve immediately, garnish with sev and tutti fruity.
