Ingredients to make Checkboard pattern whole wheat cookies

  • 1 1/4cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 Unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 11/2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/3 cup full powdered sugar plus 1 tbsp extra for vanilla flavour dough

How to make Checkboard pattern whole wheat cookies

  1. In a large bowl add flour butter and vanilla essence .
  2. Mix and make smooth dough if required add 1 to 2 tblsp of milk.
  3. Divide the dough in 2 parts in 1 part add the extra tbsp of sugar and knead. To the other half add 2 tbsp of cocoa powder and knead .
  4. You will get 2 equal portions of smooth dough ......chocolate flavour and vanilla flavour.
  5. Now with gentle pats make them into rectangular shape. Cut them in halves and again cut them from center so that you are left with 4 rectangular sheet of each dough.
  6. Now layer them......1st vanilla then chocolate side by side gently pressing them so that they stick to each other. Now on top of vanilla layer place chocolate and vise versa.. Once all the layers are placed ,give a gentle roll and form a perfect rectangular shape. Place it in fridge for at least 15 mins so that it retains its shape when you cut them. After 15 mins take it out and carefully cut them and place them on baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake it in a pre heated oven at 180 degree for 25 mins. One done let them cool.Store it in air tight containers.
