ABOUT Sheermal roti RECIPE

Sheermal is a kind of sweetened bread that is a regular in the menu of North Indian marriages, but craving is something that does not have a special occasion, thanks to mom, I am able make it whenever I want. There is a slight difference in the recipes of sheermal that depends on places to places, I posting the recipe of the one that is prepared in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and nearby places. I tastes delicious with Qorma or Kebabs. And if you are a vegetarian, you can enjoy it with gravies like Aloon Mattar. Follow my easy and simple recipe to prepare Sheermal at your home.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. All purpose flour 3 cup
  2. Baking powder 1/2 tablespoon
  3. Yeast
  4. Sugar 3. tablespoon
  5. Saffron
  6. Milk 1 cup
  7. Egg 1
  8. Ghee 3. teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl add sugar, saffron and yeast. Now add warm milk and leave it for 10 minutes.
  2. Add in egg and melted ghee. Beat well for about 5 minutes.
  3. Sieve flour and baking powder into another bowl and pour liquid mixture. Knead well to make soft and pliable dough. Cover with muslin cloth for about 2 hours to get the dough double in size. After, two hours knead the dough again and divide it into 6 equal portions.
  4. Roll out each portion into a circle of 150 mm. (6″) diameter as shown below in the picture. In a small bowl add food color,2 teaspoon milk and mix it well. Prick it with the help of fork as shown below in the picture and brush it with the food color on the top of sheermal.
  5. Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees centigrade and bake it 8-10 minutes. Sheermal is ready, serve with any korma.
