  9. Mixed fruit jam 1/2 cup
  10. Butter, for greasing
  11. Milk, for brushing on top
  12. Castor sugar, as required

Instructions

  1. First of all, to bloom the yeast, lukewarm the milk and add sugar and yeast and leave aside for 10 minutes
  2. Take the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl, make a well in centre and add oil, egg and vanilla extract. Pour the bloomed yeast with milk and sugar in this as well.
  3. Mix all the ingredients and knead till a soft dough is formed , for 8-10 minutes.
  4. Rest the dough in an oiled bowl covered with cling film at a hot place for 90 minutes till it doubles in size.
  5. After the dough doubles, punch out the air and roll it on a floured surface into a rectangular sheet 1/2 inch in thickness.
  6. With a knife cut small squares from this sheet, nearly 6 cm * 6 cm .
  7. Make a small indentation in the centre of these squares and fill each with 1 teaspoon jam.
  8. Bring the opposite ends together to seal the buns and pinch the sides as well.
  9. Place the sealed buns with seam side down on a buttered tray and also brush butter on the sides of buns so that they don’t stick with each other.
  10. Rest the buns again for 20-25 minutes , they will rise further.
  11. Brush the top of the buns with milk and bake in a preheated oven at 160 degree C for 10-15 minutes till the top cooks light brown and you get a hollow sound on tapping the buns.
  12. Take them out and cool on a wire rack.
  13. Sprinkle some castor sugar on top and serve with tea / coffee/ milk.
