Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1/2 cup semolina/sooji
  2. 1 1/4 cup water
  3. 1/4 cup sugar
  4. 1/2 tap cardamom powder
  5. 1 tbsp oil
  6. for stuffing-
  7. 1/2 cup grated fresh coconut
  8. 1/4 cup sugar
  9. 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  10. oil for frying


  1. to make stuffing-
  2. in a frying pan, add grated coconut, sugar and cardamom powder
  3. fry it till sugar melts and the mixture becomes little dry
  4. turn off the flame and keep aside the stuffing
  5. to make outer layer-
  6. in another pan add water and sugar, boil it
  7. when it starts boiling, add semolina, stirring continuously to avoid forming lumps
  8. add oil and cardamom powder
  9. cook this mixture for 1 minute
  10. remove from flame and keep aside
  11. wait till the dough cools down to room tempreture
  12. knead for few seconds to make the dough soft
  13. make small balls from the dough, flatten slightly and put stuffing to it, then roll it again to make a ball
  14. make the balls into flat shape in between your palms
  15. heat oil in a frying pan and deep fry the flatten balls on medium flame till it turns golden brown from each side
  16. kakara pitha is ready, serve hot or cool
