Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Drumstick Leaves - 1 cup
  2. Tamarind - a gooseberry sized
  3. Pepper Corns - half teaspoon
  4. Cumin Seeds - half teaspoon
  5. Red Chilly - 1 small
  6. Garlic Cloves - 3
  7. Green Chilly - 1
  8. Curry Leaves - a handful
  9. Turmeric Powder - a pinch
  10. Asafoetida - a pinch
  11. Mustard, Fenugreek and Urid Dhal - for seasoning
  12. Coriander leaves - a little
  13. Coconut Oil - 2 tsp
  14. salt for taste

Instructions

  1. Take drumstick leaves and water in a vessel.. Add salt and cook till the leaves become soft
  2. Soak tamarind in warm water for 20 minutes and extract the juice.
  3. Take pepper, cumin seeds and red chilly in a blender. Grind it to a coarse powder.. 4. Add chilly, g
  4. Add green chilly, garlic coriander leaves and curry leaves to this powder. Grind the items together to make a coarse paste..
  5. Heat a pan.. Add oil.. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and urid dal.. Let them sputter..
  6. Add hing or asafoetida and then add the ground paste and asafoetida.. Saute for while..Let the raw smell go off.
  7. Add tamarind juice. Add the cooked drumstick leaves along with the water..
  8. Add salt and mix everything together.. Keep it in medium to low flame and wait for a while..
  9. Let it froth up.. Switch off, once it bubble and froth.. Rasam is ready
