ABOUT Kala chana with jeera rice RECIPE

Chana [horse gram] is good for health..It is full of iron and proteins, basically best for diabetic patients , pregnant lady and for growing children.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Kala chana [horse gram] 1 cup
  2. Rice 1 cup
  3. 6 to 7 boiled baby potatoes
  4. 2 onions chopped
  5. 3 tomatoes chopped
  6. 1 green chilli
  7. 1 onion cut into springs
  8. 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  9. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  10. 1 tsp black pepper powder
  11. 1 tbsp chana masala
  12. 1 tsp hing [asafoetida]
  13. Salt according to taste
  14. 1 bay leaf
  15. Half tsp elaichi [cardamom] powder
  16. 1 small stick cinnamon
  17. 1 tsp garam masala
  18. 1 tbsp grated ginger
  19. Ghee
  20. Roasted papad and coriander leaves [for garnishing]
  21. Kasuri methi - 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Boil kala chana in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes which has been soaked over night, add salt to it and keep aside.
  2. After 1 whistle lower the flame..
  3. For the gravy, heat some ghee in a wok, add the asafoetida and the cumin seeds.
  4. After that put chopped onions in it. saute them and in then add ginger also.
  5. When it gets little brown add chopped tomatoes..simmer the gas.cover it wid the lid
  6. After 5 minutes, the gravy will become almost red. stir it and then add chana masala, little bit black pepper, red chilli powder,and garam masala.
  7. Put all the gravy in the pressure cooker
  8. Add kasuri methi and corriander leaves in it
  9. Now pressure cook it for 5 minutes...
  10. All the boiled chanas will be cooked in gravy very well.
  11. It will thicken also little bit
  12. Now your chana masala is ready to be served.
  13. For rice , take pressure cooker
  14. It will cook fast within 5 mins
  15. Add ghee
  16. Add bay leaf, hing and jeera
  17. Now add bay leaf, cinnamon stick and elaichi powder
  18. Put 2 and half cups of water in it
  19. Add salt according to taste and little bit garam masala.
  20. Put the soaked rice in it
  21. Cover the lid
  22. Pressure cook for 1 whistle only
  23. Your rice is ready
  24. For aloo, take a wok
  25. Put some ghee
  26. Add hing , jeera in it
  27. Now add all the potatoes ,cut into halves
  28. Sprinkle some salt, red chilli powder,, chat masala, garam masala on it.
  29. Now mix it very well
  30. Stir it continuously
  31. Now its time for plating
  32. Serve hot with onion cut into springs or in round shape with a papad.
