ABOUT Cabbage Thoran (fry) RECIPE

This is a typical vegetarian dish from Kerala and can be made with a variety of vegetables and can be a combination of one or two also.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 cups Cabbage finely chopped
  2. 6 Shallots chopped
  3. 1 Green chilly chopped
  4. 2 cups Coconut grated
  5. 1/2 tsp. Turmeric powder
  6. 1/2 tsp. Cumin seeds
  7. 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  8. Salt to taste
  9. 1 Red chili
  10. 1 tbsp Oil
  11. few Curry leaves roughly torn


  1. Add oil to a pan and drop in mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chili torn roughly.
  2. Add in onions when mustard starts to splutter. Stir in add chopped cabbage. Combine well by adding turmeric and salt.
  3. Cook on low flame by covering with a lid. In the meantime, grind coconut, green chili and cumin coarsely. Stir in this coarse ground mixture to cabbage and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Turn off the flame and serve as a part of multi-course meal.
