ABOUT Classic Waffles RECIPE

Cornstarch is the secret ingredient for crispy waffles. Mixed with flour, cornstarch guarantees that your waffles will be perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. This recipe makes approximately 4 to 5 waffles, depending on your waffle iron.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. For the Waffle Batter :
  2. All-purpose flour 3/4 cup (100grams)
  3. Cornstarch 1/4 cup (30g)
  4. Baking powder 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Baking soda 1/4 teaspoon
  6. Granulated sugar 1 tablespoon
  7. Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Whole milk 1 cup (235ml)
  9. Vegetable oil 1/3 cup (80ml)
  10. Large egg 1
  11. Vanilla extract/essence 1 teaspoon
  12. For the topping:
  13. Nutella, 1 jar
  14. Fresh strawberries, as required
  15. Chocolate Sauce
  16. White chocolate chips
  17. Nutties or any chocolate balls
  18. Gems/M&Ms
  19. Dark Chocolate Ice cream
  20. Chocolate vermicelli


  1. Prepare Batter :
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. In another bowl or large measuring jug, whisk the milk, vegetable oil, egg and vanilla together until blended.
  4. You can also keep the batter covered in the fridge for up to a week. Just be sure to whisk well before using again.
  5. Make Waffles :
  6. Heat the oven to 200° F and heat the waffle iron. 
  7. Pour the batter onto the heated waffle iron (ours takes about 1/2 cup) and cook until the waffle is crisp and golden brown.
  8. Immediately set the cooked waffle directly on the oven rack to keep it warm and crisp. 
  9. Repeat with the remaining batter, holding the waffles in the oven (try not to stack them). 
  10. Top with nutella, dark chocolate Ice cream scoop, strawberries, nutties, gems, white chocolate balls, chocolate vermicelli and drizzle with chocolate sauce.
  11. Serve immediately.

Hi vibha A wonderful recipe n if given by you it's a keeper n I'm sure would be loved by kids. I was looking for a perfect recipe. Just a query if serving immediately is it necessary to put in oven.
