Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. To roast and grind:
  2. 1 teaspoon rice
  3. 1 1/2 teaspoon channa dhal
  4. 1 teaspoon urad dhal
  5. 1/8 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  6. 2 teaspoon coriander seeds
  7. 2 dry kashmiri red chillies
  8. ½ teaspoon pepper
  9. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  10. 1 1/2 teaspoon white sesame seeds
  11. few curry leaves
  12. For Pirattal:
  13. 2 tablespoon gingelly oil
  14. ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  15. A pinch of asafoetida
  16. 2 dry red chillies
  17. few curry leaves
  18. 2 chopped garlic cloves
  19. ¼ cup chopped small onion
  20. 1/2 cup Chopped tomatoes
  21. 1 cup sliced bitterground , deseeded
  22. ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  23. 1 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  24. salt as per taste
  25. ½ cup tamarind juice (small lemon size tamarind)
  26. ½ cup water
  27. 1 teaspoon powdered jaggery
  28. 2 teaspoon grinded masala powder

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the ingredients mentioned under ‘To roast and grind’ and grind to a fine powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Then add whole red chillies, asafetida and curry leaves fry for few seconds.
  3. Then add small onions, garlic , tomatoes and bitterguord, saute it for 10 mins in medium flame.
  4. Then add salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Mix it well
  5. Add the tamarind juice and jaggery. Cover and cook it for 15 mins (till bitterguord cooks) in a medium high flame.
  6. Finally add grinded masala powder and switch off the stove.
