Poda Pitha is a traditional breakfast of Orissa..Poda is both sweet and savoury..here i have prepared savoury Pitha.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Split urad daal..1 cup
  2. Rice..2 cups
  3. Cumin seeds..1/2 sp
  4. Chopped green chillies..2
  5. Grated ginger..1/2sp
  6. Chopped fresh coconut..1sp
  7. Chopped coriander leaves
  8. Grated carrot..1
  9. Fresh curry leaves
  10. Fresh green peas..1sp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Desi ghee..1tbsp
  13. Water..1 to 2 sp


  1. Take split urad daal and rice
  2. Wash and soak the daal and rice for 1 hour.
  3. Mix both daal and rice and grind it.
  4. Add 1/2 sp of salt and Keep for fermenting nearly for 4 to 5 hours.
  5. When fermented, add cumin seeds,green chillies, coriander leaves,carrot,fresh curry leaves,green peas,ginger,coconut.
  6. Add ginger, green chillies, coriander leaves, peas, cumin seed, coconut,
  7. Add batter.
  8. Add salt to taste
  9. Add oil.
  10. Take a kadahi.. Preferably iron one. Add ghee, don't switch on the gas,add batter.
  11. Switch on the gas and keep on lower flame. Cover with lid.
  12. Check after 20 minutes with inserting a tooth pick,if it comes out clearly,it means it is done from one side.
  13. Now flip it carefully and again cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
  14. Pida pitha us ready, cut it.
  15. Serve with potato curry..
  16. The outer crust will be very crispy and inner will be soft.
