This recipe is one of the most famous recipes of Northern India and this is my way of making this one pot meal.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For dal -Arhar dal 2 cup
  2. Salt to taste
  3. Turmeric powder 1tsp
  4. Red chili powder 1/2 tsp
  5. Dry mango slice or lemon juice
  6. For dullha - wheat flour 1/1/4 cup
  7. Salt 1tsp
  8. Oil 1tbsp
  9. Cumin powder 1/4tsp
  10. Heeng 1/2 tsp
  11. For tadka-ghee2 tbsp
  12. Garlic cloves 8 no
  13. Whole red Chili 2
  14. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  15. Coriander for garnish


  1. Wash and boil dal with 2 glass water, after a boil remove the dirt add turmeric powder red chili powder and salt.
  2. Cover and cook till the dal cook 80%. Lower the heat.
  3. Make a soft dough with listed ingredients for dulha
  4. Now divide the dough into the equal and small portion.
  5. Roll small poories and twist each poori like a star shape.
  6. Add to the dal and cook on slow heat till the dulha softened and tender. Now add dry mango slice.
  7. Cook 2-3 minutes more than switch off the gas.
  8. Heat ghee add cumin as they crackle add chopped garlic saute until golden add broken red chili. Pour the tadka dal.
  9. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
