Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Drumsticks ( Tender ) – 4 or 5
  2. Tomatoes – 5 , medium sized
  3. Water – as required
  4. Onion – 1 , large
  5. Green Chilly ( Slit ) – 2
  6. Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
  7. Coriander fruits – 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
  9. Oil – 2 tablespoons
  10. Ginger – 1″ or thumb sized piece
  11. Garlic cloves – 4
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Turmeric powder – 3 pinches
  14. Red Chilly powder – 1.5 teaspoons

Instructions

  1. Clean the drumsticks with salt water . Drain the water and cut the drumsticks into 2 inch pieces. Keep aside.
  2. Peel the skin of the onion and cut it into two equal halves. Finely chop one half of the cut onion. Keep it aside.
  3. Similarly chop the tomatoes . Place it aside.
  4. In a dry mixie jar , add cumin seeds , coriander fruits , the remaining half part of the onion. Make a coarse paste of it.
  5. Heat oil in a pan over a medium flame. Sprinkle the mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Now add the prepared coarse paste , finely chopped onion, slit green chillies to it.
  6. Saute the mixture , till the raw smell goes off. To this mixture, add the chopped tomatoes and turn the flame to low. Let it cook till the tomato pieces turn soft.
  7. Now add the drumstick pieces to it . Sprinkle turmeric powder , salt and red chilly powder over it. Pour 1.5 cups of water to it. Mix well. Cover it with a lid and allow it to cook until the drumstick turns soft .
  8. Keep stirring occasionally and pour water if required.
  9. Once the gravy attains the required consistency , turn off the flame. Transfer the curry into a serving bowl.
  10. The Drumstick & Tomato Curry is ready to be served .
  11. It tastes good when served with hot steamed rice or rotis .
