ABOUT Inji Thokku/ Ginger Thokku RECIPE

This is a very yummy thokku which will goes very well with curd rice. Also tastes good with idli/dosa.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Ginger -100grams
  2. Red chilli (long)-5
  3. Tamarind - size of a small amla
  4. Jaggery powdered -1 tablespoon
  5. Urad dal -2tablespoon
  6. Gingelly oil -3tablespoon +1 tablespoon
  7. Salt -as needed


  1. Clean and peel the ginger. Cut into small slices.
  2. Soak tamarind in warm water set aside.
  3. In a kadai, heat 3tbsp if gingelly oil, add the urad dal. Fry till golden brown.
  4. Add the red chilli and fry for a minute.
  5. Add the sliced ginger and simmer the flame. Saute for five minutes.
  6. Switch off and cool down.
  7. In a mixie, add the tamarind, jaggery powder, the roasted items (ginger,chilli and dal) and add required salt.
  8. Add little water and grind to a smooth paste.
  9. Heat kadai with 1 tbsp oil and add the ground paste with little water and saute for two minutes till oil separates and the thooku is thick.
  10. Serve with curd rice or idli/dosa.
