This is delicious Gujarati snack which can be made in two ways- Steamed or Fried. This one is a steamed version.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup besan
  2. 1 cup wheat flour
  3. 1 tbsp curd
  4. 1 cup chopped methi leaves
  5. 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  6. 1/2 tsp haldi powder
  7. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  8. 1 tbsp sugar
  9. 1/2 citric acid
  10. water
  11. oil for greasing and tempering
  12. salt as per taste
  13. Ingredients for tempering:
  14. 1 tsp mustard
  15. 1 tbsp white sesame seeds
  16. 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  17. 2 green chillies slit
  18. 1 sprig of curry leaves
  19. Ingredients for garnishing:
  20. Chopped coriander
  21. 2 tbsp grated coconut


  1. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and make a smooth dough by adding water as required.
  2. Make a long log shape of it and steam it in a (greased plate) steamer for 15-20 minutes or till its done.
  3. Once cooled, slice it and temper with the items given above.
  4. Garnish with chopped coriander and grated coconut.

The traditional muthiya does have wheat flour to besan ratio as 3:1. Though one may increase besan by a half cup more.

I tried it but 1 cup each of wheat and besan ??? I hope wheat is little more in qty is it?? or the same
