ABOUT Sago Dates payasam ( Navratri ) RECIPE

Sago is the best Navratri fasting food . Sago cooked in milk along with dry fruits makes it a wholesome fasting food that supplies the necessary stamina and energy for one those who are fasting during Navratri .

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Sago 240 grams soaked
  2. Dates seedless 15 finely chopped
  3. Ghee 2 tablespoons
  4. Chopped almonds 10
  5. Chopped cashews 10
  6. Boiled milk 4 large glasses .
  7. Vanilla essence 1/2 teaspoon .
  8. Saffron 3 strands soaked in 2 tablespoons of milk .

Instructions

  1. Soak the sago in water for 3 hours . I used small ones so it turned soft easily .
  2. Filter the sago without water .
  3. In a sauce pan , heat a teaspoon of ghee and fry the nuts . Keep the fried nuts aside .
  4. Now add a teaspoon of ghee . Add the drained sago and toss for few seconds . Mash the sago seeds using the spatula .
  5. Add boiled milk and allow the sago to cook in milk .
  6. Once the sago seeds are cooked completely , pour saffron infused milk .
  7. Add chopped dates . Allow to cook for few minutes .
  8. Finally add vanilla essence . Switch off the flame .
  9. Garnish with nuts . Serve warm / chill as you prefer.
