About Poha Recipe

A simple and light breakfast which can be prepared within 15 minutes.It is made of pressed rice (poha) and veggies or fruits of choice are added. More commonly kanda poha or aloo poha is preffered. Here we are making one without these two. It is a dish from Maharastra and is easy to prepare.

Ingredients to make Poha

  • 1 cup poha
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 chopped green chilli
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 10-12 fried peanuts
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 1 chopped cucumber
  • 1 tsp salt (increase or decrease as per taste)
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • ¾ tsp turmeric powder
  • Chopped coriander to garnish

How to make Poha

  1. Wash the poha lightly and keep aside.
  2. In a pan, heat oil and add the mustard seeds.
  3. As they crackle, add other ingredients one by one, the chopped green chilli, chopped tomatoes, curry leaves, fried peanut and chopped cucumber. Saute them for a while.
  4. Now add the poha with salt and turmeric powder. Mix it quickly.
  5. Cook it for a few minutes, then turn off the flame.
  6. Add the lemon juice and mix. Garnish it with chopped coriander and it's ready. Enjoy it with tea, coffee or juice!

My Tip:

You can make variations by adding chopped kanda, boiled and chopped potatoes or boiled peas to it.
