ABOUT Bhaapa Illish RECIPE

A bengali delicacy, steamed hilsa fish curry to be served with some steamed rice on the side.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Illish Fish (pcs) - 3nos.
  2. Salt - as per taste
  3. Sugar - 1/2tsp
  4. Turmeric - 1tsp
  5. Mustard Oil - 3-4tbsp
  6. Yellow Mustard Paste - 2-3tbsp
  7. Poppy seeds paste - 1tbsp
  8. Green Chillies - 4-5nos.
  9. Water - As per requirement of gravy.


  1. Clean the fish with water & take it in a micriwave safe bowl.
  2. Marinate it with Salt, Sugar, Mustard Paste, Poppy seeds Paste, Turmeric powder & pour little Mustard Oil over it. Add some water as per your gravy needs. Put some slitted Green Chillies also.
  3. Put the bowl in the Micro+Convection mode for 15-20mins turning both the sides till the fish becomes soft. Serve with Hot Steamed Rice.
