About Fish Dum Biryani Recipe

Just like chicken, mutton and prawns, Fish dum biryani is equally delicious in taste

Fish Dum Biryani

Ingredients to make Fish Dum Biryani

  • Basmati rice – 2 cups
  • 4 cups water
  • cardamom – 4
  • cloves – 4
  • cinnamon – 1 small stick
  • Shahi jeera - 1 tsp
  • bay leaf -2
  • salt to taste
  • Few saffron strands soaked in warm milk
  • For Fish Fry:
  • Fish Pieces – 1/2 kg - firm white fleshed fish
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • lemon Juice - 3/4 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil for Frying
  • For Fish masala
  • onion – 2 large thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • Green Chili – 3 slit
  • ginger Garlic Paste – 2 tbsp
  • chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • coriander powder – 1 tb sp
  • turmeric powder– 1 tsp
  • cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • Biryani masala – 2 tsp
  • tomato – 1 large chopped
  • curd – 1 cup
  • coriander leaves – 1/4 cup finely chopped
  • mint leaves – 1/4 cup finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • For Garnish
  • mint Leaves – 1/4 cup finely chopped
  • coriander leaves – 1/4 cup finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fried onions
  • 8-10 fried cashews(optional)

How to make Fish Dum Biryani

  1. Wash and Soak rice for 30 mins. Now boil water with all the whole dry spices. Add the rice in the water and cook until 90 percentage done. Drain excess water and set aside
  2. Marinate the fish for 30 minutes with the ingredients mentioned under fish fry. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Fry the fish pieces for 5 mins on each side. Keep aside
  3. In a pan, heat ghee, add onions,green chili and saute for 5 mins
  4. Add in ginger garlic paste and saute them until raw aroma goes off
  5. Add in all the spice powders and mix them for few seconds
  6. Add in tomatoes and a splash of water. Cook this for 5 mins till the tomatoes are completely mushy
  7. Add in salt, mint leaves, coriander leaves and curd. Mix well.Cook this for 5 mins till the masala is completely cooked. Add Fish pieces to masala and mix for few seconds. Keep aside
  8. Take a heavy bottom pan, grease with ghee, place half of fish masala, layer with rice. Sprinkle half of saffron milk. Garnish half of fried onions, nuts,mint and coriander leaves. Now add remaining fish masala, layer with rice, sprinkle with saffron milk and garnish with remaining fried onions nuts mint and coriander leaves
  9. Place fish pieces from fish masala on the top. Fish peices should be always placed on top. Cover with aluminium foil or damp clean cloth. Place lid on top.Place pan on Hot tawa. Cook on low heat for 15 minutes. Gently mix and serve hot with raita
