About Spicy Dum Fish Biriyani Recipe

Fish is definetly one among the many things we miss being in middle east.Biriyani is truly a delicacy of india.This biriyani is prepared best with king fish and salmon fish.I live in oman.

Spicy Dum Fish Biriyani

Ingredients to make Spicy Dum Fish Biriyani

  • King fish - 1/2 kg
  • Basmati rice - 3 cups(soak them for 10minutes)
  • ghee - 5 tablespoon
  • onions - 3 + 1
  • tomato - 1
  • ginger garlic paste - 2 tablespoon
  • cloves,cardamom and cinnamon - As required
  • Green chilli - 3
  • oil - 1/2 + 1/2 cup
  • mint leaves - As required
  • coriander leaves chopped - As required
  • Biriyani spices:
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 tablespoon
  • chilli powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  • pepper powder -1/2 tablespoon
  • coriander powder - 2 tablespoon
  • saunf powder - 2 tablespoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 tablespoon
  • For marinating fish :
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 tablespoon
  • chilli powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon
  • saunf powder - 1 tablespoon
  • pepper powder - 1/4 tablespoon
  • salt - as required
  • For biriyani masala:
  • Jeeragam powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  • cinnamon - 2
  • onion-1/4 piece
  • mint leaves - few chopped
  • Green chilli - 2

How to make Spicy Dum Fish Biriyani

  1. Marinate the fish with ingredients mentioned under ‘for marinating fish’.Keep aside for half an hour.
  2. Meanwhile chop 1 onion and fry them in a pan pouring 1/2 cup oil.
  3. In the same pan and oil,fry the marinated fish and keep then aside.
  4. For the biriyani masala,grind the items mentioned under ‘biriyani masala’ and keep it aside.
  5. In a big pot,add 5 cup of water and when it comes to boil add the rice.Cook the rice till its almost done .It takes around 10minutes.
  6. Drain the rice and keep it aside.
  7. In a pan add 1/2 cup tablespoon of oil.Add ginger garlic paste,onions,tomato,green chilli,cloves,cinnamon.
  8. After 5 minutes,add salt and cook them well.Add the spices mentioned under ‘Biriyani spices’.
  9. Pour 1/2 cup water and bring them to boil.
  10. After few minutes pour the grinded biriyani masala to it.
  11. Allow them cook under low flame for 5 minutes.Cook them till oil seperates.
  12. Place the fried fish in the pan and sprinkle some coriander and mint leaves over them.Close the lid and allow them to cook for 2 minutes.
  13. Now spoon the cooked rice on top and garnish them with fried onions,mint,coriander leaves and ghee.
  14. keep a thick pan on the flame and place the cooking pot over it. Let this whole thing be on dum for 7-10 minutes.
  15. Turn off the heat and transfer to another plate.
  16. Fish biriyani is ready to be served.

My Tip:

1. you need to use the boneless fish rather than using normal fish. 2. you will need a flat tawa/pan on which the cooking pot should be placed for dum.
