About Murg Amravati Recipe

This is a very uncommon and traditional dish of Maharastra made with chicken. The combination of peanuts, cashews and coconut with the chicken will gives richness to the curry.

Murg Amravati

Ingredients to make Murg Amravati

  • 500 gm chicken with bones
  • 2 medium sized onion - paste
  • 2 medium sized onion- sliced
  • 3-4 green chilli paste
  • 1 tsp white or black mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp roasted and slightly crushed peanuts
  • 3 tbsp fresh coconut paste
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • salt 1 tbsp
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 4 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 dry chillies
  • 2 tbsp cashews
  • 4 cloves
  • 6 black peppercorns
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • A pinch of nutmeg

How to make Murg Amravati

  1. Make a smooth paste of all these ingredients.
  2. Now marinate the chicken with salt, curd, turmeric powder, green chilli paste, coriander powder, chilli powder and the paste of above masala's.
  3. Now heat oil in a pan add the mustard seeds into it.
  4. Now add sliced onions and fry until brown.
  5. Now add onion paste and cook until it turns brown.
  6. Add the marinated chicken, coconut paste and crushed peanuts into it and stir for sometimes.
  7. Now add tomato sauce and garam masala powder, mix it well.
  8. Now cover the pan and cook on a low heat until the chicken is tender.
  9. Now open the lid and add lemon juice and mix it with the chicken gravy.
  10. Turn off the heat and serve hot.
