ABOUT Vegetable chop RECIPE

veg chops are a well known street food in Bengal. Basically these are veg cutlets with beetroot as one of the main ingredient. These veggie cutlets are very crispy from outside as these are crumb coated. You can prepare and crumb coat the chops and then refrigerate in advance for a quick snack.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Beetroot boiled 1
  2. Boiled potato 2
  3. Green peas boiled handful
  4. Carrot 1
  5. Roasted Peanuts 3tbsp
  6. Green chilli 2-3 chopped
  7. Coriander leaves chopped 2tbsp
  8. Chilli powder 1tsp
  9. Garam masala powder 1tsp
  10. Bread crumbs 1/2cup
  11. Sugar 1/2tsp
  12. Salt as per the taste
  13. Oil 1cup
  14. Cornflour /maida 2 tsp


  1. Grate beetroot and carrot.
  2. Heat 1tsp oil in a nonstick pan.
  3. Add grated veggies,green peas, green chilli and saute.
  4. Add all the spices, salt and sugar.
  5. Mix everything well and then add mashed potatoes.
  6. Cook for 2mins mixing well.
  7. Finally add roasted peanuts(skins removed) and chopped coriander leaves.
  8. Mix everything well and switch off.
  9. Let the mixture cool down a bit.
  10. Now take a portion of the mixture and shape into a cylindrical shaped cutlet.
  11. In a small bowl take cornflour and add water. Mix well to make a slurry.
  12. Coat the veggie chop with the batter. 
  13. Now coat the batter coated veg chop in breadcrumbs.
  14. Repeat the same process for all the chops.
  15. Heat oil for deep frying in a pan or kadai.
  16. Place the veg chops gently in the hot oil and fry at medium temperature. 
  17. Fry till the outer coating becomes crisp flipping in between.
  18. Take out and serve hot with any sauce of your choice.
