ABOUT Chapdi tavo (Rajkot famous food ) RECIPE

Chapdi Tavo, a traditional kathiawari dish.Chapdi is nothing but thick fried/baked bhakhri and tavo is a mix vegetable gravy with full of Indian spices.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chapdi
  2. Wheat flour-2 cup
  3. Semolina-1/4 cup
  4. Salt-to taste
  5. Warm water
  6. Oil-1/3 cup
  7. Carom seeds-1/8 tsp
  8. Tavo
  9. Potato-1 medium size
  10. Bottle gourd-1 cup (chopped in medium size pieces)
  11. Eggplant-1 medium size
  12. Carrot-1/3 cup
  13. Green peas:-1/2 cup
  14. Garlic paste-1 tbsp
  15. Ginger paste- 1 tsp,
  16. Green chili-2 (finely chopped)
  17. Onion-1 cup
  18. Tomato puree-2 cups
  19.  Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  20. Red chili powder-2 tsp
  21. Cumin and coriander powder-2 tsp
  22. Sugar-2 tsp
  23. Garam masala powder-1 tbsp
  24. Coriander-1 cup (finely chopped)
  25. Oil-1/4 cup
  26. Cinnamon stick-1 small
  27. Cloves-3
  28. Bay leaf-1
  29.  Asafoetida

Instructions

  1. Chapdi
  2. Mixflour,semolina,salt,carom seeds and oil well, then sprinkle water enough to form into stiff dough.
  3. Divide into equal balls and form a round shape and prick them.
  4. Fry them in low to medium heat in oil and flip them in between while frying. Take them out in a paper towel.
  5. Tavo: In a pan, heat oil and add all the tempering items onion and saute for a minute, add garlic, ginger, green chili paste and pinch of salt. 
  6. Cook until raw flavor of ginger-garlic reduces and onion becomes translucent.
  7. Add tomato puree,turmeric, red chili, coriander & cumin powder, salt, and all the boil vegetables
  8. Stir well. Add 3-4 cups water and cook covered in medium flame until vegetables are done (Keep stirring in between).
  9. Mix water and chili powder and set aside. 
  10. Heat oil in a pan and add prepared mix and cook for a while
  11. Pour cooked mix in tavo then add garam masala, sugar and 3/4 cup coriander.
  12. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  13. Crush 1 chapdi in a plate & pour hot tavo on it. Mix well.
