Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/3 cup toor dal
  2. Extract from small sized tamarind
  3. 15 pearl onions
  4. 1 tomato
  5. 2 green chilly
  6. 1+1/2 cup veggies of your choice
  7. 1 sprig curry leaves
  8. Salt to taste
  9. TO GRIND
  10. 1/4 teaspoon fenugreek seed
  11. 1 tablespoons coriander seeds
  12. 1 tablespoons chana dal
  13. 1/2 teaspoon raw rice
  14. 6 dried red chilly
  15. 4 tablespoons grated coconut
  16. SEASONINGS
  17. 1 tablespoons oil
  18. 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  19. 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  20. A pinch of hing
  21. Few curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pressure dal for 4 whistle
  2. In a pan, add oil, roast all ingredients under 'fry and grind '. Roast in medium flame
  3. Switch off and add coconut while it is still hot. Then grind all to coarse paste
  4. To same pan, add oil, saute onion, curry leaves, green chilly and tomato. Saute for few min
  5. Then add veggies and cook for few min.
  6. Now add tamarind extract and allow it to boil. Add ground paste, let it boil.
  7. Now add cooked dal and stir well
  8. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes. Add salt.
  9. In a tadka pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and hing. Pour this tempering to prepared sambar and mix well.
  10. Garnish and serve hot
