ABOUT Anchovies Pickle RECIPE

An authentic tamilnadu recipe, which is almost of pickle consistency.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 250 gms anchovies, cleaned
  2. 3/4 cup shallots
  3. 3/4 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  4. 3/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  5. 1 sprig curry leaves
  6. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  7. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  8. 2 tablespoon red chilly powder
  9. 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  10. 1 cup tamarind pulp
  11. 1/2 inch palm sugar
  12. Salt to taste
  13. 6 tablespoons gingelly oil
  14. TO GRIND
  15. 1 big tomato
  16. 5 garlic cloves

Instructions

  1. Grind tomato and garlic to fine paste in a blender
  2. Heat 3 tablespoons oil and add fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  3. Once it is browned, add tomato garlic paste and cook
  4. Add shallots and continue cooking till it mashes well
  5. When oil oozes out, add red chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and continue cooking until raw smell goes off
  6. Add tamarind pulp, salt and continue cooking till oil floats on top
  7. Now add fish, close pan and cook for few minutes
  8. Don't mix using spatula. Just swirl the pan.
  9. When gravy reduces in consistency, add 3 tablespoons oil and curry leaves
  10. Turn off and serve
