Dal khichdi

Ingredients to make Dal khichdi

  • rice 1/2 cup
  • Arhar dal 1 cup
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 medium tomato chopped
  • 2 green chilies chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp mustard and cumin
  • A pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp ghee for tadka
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 2 dried red chili.

How to make Dal khichdi

  1. Pressure cook the dal rice with turmeric and salt.
  2. In mean while. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds . As it splutters add onions saute till translucent. Now add ginger garlic paste. Saute till raw smell goes off.
  3. Add tomatoes and chillies. Cook till soft. Add coriander powder and red chilli powder. Cook well.
  4. Open lid of the cooker. Add a little water. Mash the dal rice completely.
  5. Now add this into the pan. Cook for a while along with masala
  6. In a tadka pan heat ghee. Add cumin seeds, hing, dried red chilli and curry leaves. Add this on the masala khichdi.
  7. Mix well. Serve hot with papad and achar
