Ingredients to make Khichuri (moong dal khichri )

  • 1 cup gobindo bhog rice. ( any other varieties may also be used )
  • 1 Cup moong dal
  • 1 cup potatoes cut into cubes
  • 1 cup red carrots cut into cubes
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 1/2 cup cauliflower cut into florets
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon jeera powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon haldi powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • water as required
  • Ghee , green chillies and jeera for tempering.

How to make Khichuri (moong dal khichri )

  1. Put the dal , rice , potatoes , green peas , carrots in a deep pan. Put enough water .
  2. Add salt , jeera powder , haldi powder , chilli powder , sugar and cook till half done.
  3. Now add the cauliflower , cover and cook till done.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan , put the jeera and green chillies. Once it splutters add the tempering to be the khichuri. Mix well.
  5. Adding green coriander leaves is optional. Serve hot with beguni ( baigan pakora ) , peyaji ( onion pakora. and achar of your choice.
  6. If you relish ghee , you may add a teaspoon of ghee on a bowl of hot khichuri when serving.

My Tip:

If you like , for a great flavour , you may toss the cauliflower florets in a little ghee before adding to the khichuri to be cooked.
