ABOUT Moong Dal Khichdi RECIPE

Khichdi is good for kids. Its healthy, nutritous one pot meal which is very easy to digest. There are variations of khichdi, today I have cooked this easy, quick khichdi in pressure cooker for my children. Both (3yrs and 4 yrs) of them loves this khichdi from their hearts content.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Gobindobhog Rice 1 cup
  2. Moong dal 1 cup
  3. Water 3 Cups
  4. Cumin seeds 1tsp
  5. Ginger crushed 1/2 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  7. Salt 1 tsp
  8. Sugar 1/2 tsp
  9. Mustard oil 1 tsp
  10. Ghee 1 tsp
  11. Bay leaf 1
  12. tomato 1 Sliced

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak daal and rice.
  2. Place the soaked rice, daal, salt, turmeric powder and 2cups of water in a pressure cooker and cook till one whistle.
  3. Switch off the flame. Let the cooker cool by itself.
  4. Heat a kadai and temper with cumin seeds, bay leaf and crushed ginger
  5. Open the cooker, add tomato slices, 1 cup of water or according to your desired consistency of the khichdi ( my kids love runny texture)
  6. When it comes to a boil, add the oil with cumin seeds and bay leaves.
  7. Add sugar and mix well
  8. Serve hot khichdi with some ghee on top, to add flavour.
