ABOUT Mushroom Matar RECIPE

Semi dry curry of peas and mushrooms made north indian style.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 200 gm mushrooms
  2. 3/4 cup fresh or frozen peas
  3. 3 medium size tomatoes, finely chopped
  4. 1 medium size onion, finely chopped
  5. 2 green chilly finely chopped
  6. 1/4 teaspoon Lal mirch or as per taste
  7. 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  8. 1/2 teaspoon haldi powder
  9. 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder or everest meat masala
  10. 1 teaspoon Dhani ya powder
  11. 2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  12. 2 cup water or as required
  13. 2 to 3 spoon mustard oil
  14. salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. heat oil in a pan or kadai. add cumin and fry until they splutter just for a minute
  2. Add finely chopped onions and saute till translucent.
  3. add the chopped tomatoes and green chilies.
  4. add ginger-garlic paste. saute till the raw aroma disappears.
  5. stir and then add the spice powders - turmeric, red chilli, coriander powder, garam masala or meat masala
  6. stir and saute till oil starts to leave the sides of the onion-tomato masala mixture.
  7. add the chopped and washed mushrooms and peas.
  8. stir and saute for 2 to 3 mins. then add water and salt. add water as required. if using tender or frozen peas, then reduce the water to 1 cup. if using peas which are not tender or old, then add 2 cups of water or as required.
  9. cover the pan with a lid and cook till the peas are softened.
  10. stir and serve matar mushroom hot with rotis, naan or chapatis
