Mushroom Matar Masala is a delicious veggie dish which is made without the onions.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 200 gm - Mushroom washed, wiped dry and cut in quarters.
  2. 100 gm - Frozen or fresh peas
  3. 3 - Tomatoes pureed with 4 cloves of garlic (if not using garlic add 10 cashews)
  4. 1/2 cup - Thick cream
  5. 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  7. 1 tsp - Coriander and chili powder
  8. 1 tsp - Garam masala
  9. 2 tbsp - Dry Fenugreek leaves
  10. A pinch Asafoetida powder
  11. 1 Cup - Water
  12. 3 tbsp - Oil
  13. Salt according to taste


  1. Heat oil in a pan and add in cumin seeds. When it starts to splutter add in asafoetida, turmeric powder and add in the tomato puree. 
  2. Cook it till oil floats on the surface. This will take 8-10 mins. Now add in green peas and water and again cook till it is soft.
  3. Next add in mushrooms and cook till mushrooms are soft. Add cream to this and boil for 1 min. Add fenugreek leaves and adjust seasoning by adding salt and switch the gas.
  4. Serve hot with roti, naan, paratha or jeera rice.
