Every family of awadh part is surely making this sewai, I bet you no one from another state can make as perfect as the original one, only for this recipe. Basically I am from awadh, but I haven't stayed there so m not expert like them, coz for me making perfect kimami sewai is quiet difficult for me, but this time I went to my mom and stand next behind her, how she is making, then I wrote everything , the measurement, the Techniques, and the timing, then I tried to make this on eid, n I think I have done quite good attempt!!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Very fine banarasi sewain 1 cup
  2. Khoya 1 cup
  3. Milk 1 cup
  4. Water 1 cup
  5. sugar 1 cup
  6. Ghee 1 cup
  7. Makhana cut into halves 1/2 cup
  8. Chironji 1 tbsp
  9. Raisins 1 tbsp
  10. Coconut cut into small pieces 1 tbsp
  11. Chopped pistachios ,cashews and almonds for garnishing


  1. In a heavy bottomed pan add sugar and water .
  2. When it boils add milk to it. Cook for few minutes. If you find any dirt remove it with sieve
  3. Now add khoya and cook till get 2 string thread consistency known as sheera.
  4. In a pan dry roast sewain till seems light brown and roasted well (aroma appeared) keep aside in separate bowl.
  5. Now heat ghee and fry makhana,then chironji ,and then coconut. Keep aside
  6. Now add sewain in chashni or sheera ,add fried makhana, chironji, coconut to it.
  7. Cook for 5 minute and switch off the flame and cover the lid for atleast 10 minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped cashews, pistachios and almonds.
