ABOUT Missi Roti RECIPE

Traditional Punjabi dish which is healthy as well as yummy . Perfect dish for monsoon.

Ingredients Serving: 7

  1. Whole Wheat Flour 1 cup
  2. Gram flour 1 cup
  3. Salt as required or 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Water 3/4 cup to knead
  5. Caraway seeds 1.5 teaspoon
  6. Turmeric powder 3/4 teaspoon
  7. Red Chilli Powder 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Ghee 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon
  9. For filling :
  10. Onion finely chopped 1 cup
  11. Green chillies finely chopped 1.5 tablespoons
  12. red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon
  13. Salt as required
  14. Dry mango powder 1/2 teaspoon
  15. Other Ingredients :
  16. Ghee 3 tablespoons for frying rotis

Instructions

  1. Add 1 cup whole wheat flour in a wide bowl .
  2. Add 1 cup gram flour .
  3. Mix the flours well
  4. Add salt and mix
  5. Add 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder .
  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder .
  7. Add 1.5 teaspoon caraway seeds .
  8. Add 1 tablespoon ghee
  9. Mix well for 3 minutes .
  10. Add required water. Knead to a semi stiff dough .
  11. Smear ghee on dough . Keep it covered for 10 minutes .
  12. Add 1 cup finely chopped onions ,1.5 tablespoons finely chopped green chilies in a bowl
  13. Add 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  14. Add 1/2 teaspoon dry Mango powder
  15. Add salt. Mix well and keep it aside .
  16. Divide dough into equal portions and shape into medium sized balls
  17. Roll the balls into medium thickness roti .
  18. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon prepared filling on the roti .
  19. Now roll the roti along with the onion filling such that it gets well inserted into the rotis.
  20. Heat a iron tawa to smoking point and reduce heat. Place the roti on hot tawa and cook
  21. Once it puffs up, flip and cook.Spread 1 teaspoon ghee on top
  22. Cook until golden brown spots appear
  23. Punjab famous traditional Missi rotis are ready to serve . Serve with yogurt or pickle.
