a typical odiya traditional dish which is a must in every festival of Odisha..a very tasty sweet stuffed with caramelised coconut

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. semolina 2 cups
  2. sugar 1 cup
  3. cardamom 3-4
  4. clove 5-6
  5. coconut 1
  6. sugar 1/2 cup
  7. oil for frying


  1. boil 4 cups of water
  2. add crushed cardamom and clove
  3. add sugar 1 cup
  4. add semolina and stir continuously so that no lumps will be formed
  5. cook for 2-3 mins covered
  6. keep aside
  7. in a pan take grated coconut and sugar 1/2 cup and cook till sugar gets caramelised and changes colour
  8. add crushed cardamom and keep aside
  9. now mash the dough well with a little oil in your hands and take a small portion of the dough
  10. stuff it with caramelised coconut and seal from all the sides so that no opening is there
  11. heat sufficient oil in a Kadhai and deep fry these mandas till golden brown
  12. serve hot or cool it and serve..can store up to two days
