ABOUT Mundhiri Koththu RECIPE

Coconut finds place in almost every recipe native to Kanyakumari district in Tamilnadu. This recipe is one of the traditional most sweet made during all festivals whether its religious or family festival irrespective of any religion.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Green Gram 1 and 1/2 cups
  2. Shredded coconut 2 cups
  3. Raw rice 1 cup
  4. Green Cardamom 5
  5. Grated jagerry 1 and 1/2 cup
  6. Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  7. Coconut oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak rice in water for an hour. Grind it to smooth paste adding pinch of salt and turmeric powder. Keep aside. Let it be in milkshake consistency.
  2. Dry roast the green gram in a pan in medium flame till nice aroma comes and it becomes golden brown. Allow it to cool down.
  3. Add the cardamom to it and powder to the consistency of fine semolina.
  4. Dry roast the coconut also to light golden brown. Once it gets cooled down mix it with the greengram powder.
  5. Now add the jagerry powder to a pan with 75 ml of water and boil. Wait till the jagerry dissolves and form honey like consistency. No need for any string consistency. Pour it on to the greengram and coconut mixture and mix well.
  6. Make small gooseberry size balls and keep aside.
  7. Heat oil in a pan. Take the balls dip one by one in the batter and deep fry to crisp.
