Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1.To Boil Soya Chunks:
  2. 2 cups soya chunks(small)
  3. 4 cups water
  4. 1/2 tsp salt
  5. To Grind:
  6. 1/3 cup coconut slices
  7. 4 garlic cloves
  8. 1/4 inch piece of ginger
  9. 1/4 inch piece of cinnamon
  10. 3 cloves
  11. 3 cardamom
  12. 2 green chillies
  13. For Soya Chunks Puttu:
  14. 2 tbsp oil
  15. 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  16. 1 finely chopped medium size onion
  17. 1 sprig curry leaves
  18. Grinded mixture
  19. Salt as required
  20. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  21. 1 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  22. Boiled soya chunks
  23. Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Add water and salt in a pan,allow it it roll boil.Add soya chunks and switch off the flame.Let it rest for 10 mins.Wash soya chunks twice under running water and squeeze excess water from it and keep aside.
  2. Grind the soya chunks using pulse mode in mixie. Give exactly 3 pulses,else it will grind to a fine paste.It wont be good for making puttu.
  3. Grind the ingredients mentioned under 'To Grind' to a coarse mixture without adding water.Keep aside
  4. Heat oil in a pan.add fennnel seeds.Let it roast for 30 secs.Meanwhile add onions and curry leaves,saute until it turns light brown colour.
  5. Then add grinded mixture,spice powders and salt,saute until raw smell of the grinded mixture vanishes(appx 8 mins in medium flame).
  6. Finally add grinded soya chunks and saute(appx 15 mins in a low flame & 5 mins in medium flame) until soya chunks completely mixed with the masalas.If needed,add a.tsp of oil.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the stove.Serve as a side dish for south indian meals.
