Corn Puttu !! (KERALA STYLE )

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Readymade Corn Puttu powder - 1 Big cup ( adjust according to your famliy needs )
  2. Fresh Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  3. Grated carrots - 2 to 3
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Water - little for making the puttu & for steaming while making the puttu...


  1. Take a big vessel and put the puttu powder in it.
  2. Add salt and mix well.
  3. Then sprinkle little water as per requirement and mix again.
  4. Keep it aside covered for a few minutes...
  5. In the meantime take a pressure cooker, add water in it and heat it.. for steaming purpose.... Do not use the whistle (weight).
  6. Then take a puttu maker... There is a round ring with small holes in it which helps the puttu to steam....through those holes.
  7. Add the freshly grated coconut first, then the grated carrots....Then add about 2 tbspns of puttu powder...
  8. Repeat this again as a layer...till the top of the puttu-maker
  9. Once it is full , close with the lid & keep it carefully on the pressure cooker....
  10. Let the puttu cook on medium to high flame for about 5 to 6 minutes...
  11. When it is cooked properly...with a heat resistant glove remove it from the top of the cooker
  12. Push the corn puttu carefully with the help of a skewer or with the back of a wooden thin spatula...
  13. Here's the picture of the Corn puttu removed from the puttu maker
  14. Serve hot with the curry of your choice
  15. Here I have served it with green moong dal curry also called Cherupayar curry in Kerala. Also I have served a ripe small banana and papadum.
