ABOUT Mochar Ghonto RECIPE

Mocha or banana blossoms are very nutritious especially it is a good source of iron. Ghonto is bengali style curry. Different types of recipes of Mocha are there in bengali cuisine niramish or pure veg without onions and garlic and aamish like mocha chingri. Here I cooked Mochar Ghonto with onion and garlic.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Mocha (banana blossoms) 1 medium size
  2. Salt and termaric as required
  3. Red cilli powder 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  4. Bay leaf 1, cardamom pods 2, cinnamon stick 1 small, clove 2
  5. Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  6. sugar 2 teaspoon
  7. Potatoes 3 medium cubed
  8. Onion chopped small size
  9. Ginger garlic paste green cilli paste 2 table spoon
  10. Onion paste 1 table spoon
  11. Cumin powder 1 teaspoon
  12. Shredded coconut 4 table spoon
  13. Bengali garam mashala powder 1 teaspoon ( green cardamom + cinnamon + clove)
  14. Mustard oil for cooking 2 table spoon
  15. Whole green cilli 2
  16. ghee 2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Cut and clean banana blossom. Firstly, oil your hands peel the purple layers and remove the florets.
  2. In each floret remove 'stemen' the longest string with a round head
  3. And remove the translucent thin cover.
  4. Now chop the florets and add termaric powder and water. Cook about 15 minutes or up to 2-3 whistles.
  5. Then drain the water let it cool and mash once
  6. Now heat oil and add bay leaf, cumin seeds and let it splutter
  7. Add whole cardamom, cinnamon and cloves and fri.
  8. Add chopped onion and fry until golden brown in colour and add sugar
  9. Add ginger garlic paste, onion paste and fry add chopped potatoes mix well
  10. Add cooked mocha and, termaric powder, cilli powder, green cilli and salt.
  11. Stir occasionally. Add 1cup of water mix and cover it.
  12. Cook it until the water evaporates fully.
  13. Remove the cover check if the potatoes well cooked then add shredded coconut and mix well.
  14. After 5 minutes add garam mashala powder and ghee and cover again.
  15. Remove from the heat and let it stand for few minutes
  16. Serve with Steamed rice.
