A bengali delicacy made with banana flowers, a delicious curry to be served with just some steamed rice.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Banana flower (chopped and boiled, strained) - 2 cups
  2. Diced potatoes - 1
  3. Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  4. Boiled kala chana - 1 cup
  5. Ginger paste - 1 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  7. Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  8. Jeera powder - 1 tsp
  9. Salt
  10. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  11. Bay leaf - 1
  12. Dry red chillies - 2
  13. Ghee/refined oil


  1. Heat a kadhai, add ghee/oil followed by jeera seeds, dry red chillies and bay leaf.
  2. Then add the diced potatoes and fry for sometime. Now add the ginger paste followed by powdered masalas and salt.
  3. Add the boiled chana and give it a mix.
  4. Now add the grated coconut and cook for few minutes.
  5. Add the chopped, boiled and strained banana flowers and mix. Add ample amount of water and bring it to boil and cook till water is almost dried up.
  6. Check for salt, add a little more ghee, a little sugar and serve.
