ABOUT Konkani Dali Toye RECIPE

Dali Toye is one staple dishes of Konkan Brahman Community . This is a simple dal recipe which is served as one comfort food during occasions . A flavorful Konkani style Dal which is served traditionally with steamed rice .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Toor Dal 1 cup ( 1 cup equals 200 ml )
  2. Water 2.5 to 3 cups
  3. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  4. Green chillier slit lengthwise 5
  5. Salt 2.5 teaspoons or as preferred
  6. For tempering :
  7. Ghee 4 tablespoons
  8. Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  9. Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  10. Hing 3/4 teaspoon
  11. Curry leaves chopped fistful
  12. Cilantros chopped for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak dal in water for 30 minutes .
  2. Transfer the soaked and drained dal to a heavy based container .
  3. Add green chilies , turmeric powder and salt .
  4. Add water and cook the dal mushy for 20minutes .
  5. For tempering , heat ghee in a tadka pan .
  6. Crackle mustard seeds , then cumin seeds .
  7. Add hing .
  8. Add chopped curry leaves . Fry all till roasted but not till dark .
  9. Pour the tempering mixture to the dal.
  10. Slow cook the dal covered for 2 minutes for flavored to infuse well .
  11. Garnish with chopped cilantros .
  12. Dali Toye is ready .
  13. Serve hot with steamed rice .
