This a traditional recipe of Kerala. Just like khaman of gujarat,but it is made by rice and is a sweet dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup rice
  2. 1/4 cup sugar
  3. 1 tbsp semolina
  4. 1/4 tsp dry yeast
  5. 1 fresh grated coconut
  6. 1/4 tsp salt
  7. 1tbsp Cashew nuts and raisins
  8. 1 tsp cardmam powder
  9. 1/2 cup milk


  1. wash rice and soak for 3 hours.
  2. Now grind them in a fine pest with the help of a mixer.
  3. Now cook it in 1/2 cup milk till become a thik pest.
  4. Now keep dry yeas to proof in 2 tsp luck warm water and 1 tsp sugar for 10 minutes.
  5. Now mix rice pest, cooked semolina and proofed yeast and keep in a warm place for fermentation atleast for 6 hours.
  6. Fry cashews and raisins in ghee.
  7. Now add this coconut sugar mix in fermented mix our vatteappam mix is ready.
  8. Now pour this mix in a pot and cook in boiler for 5 minutes. Then decorate by fried cash nuts and raisins and again start cooking for 15 minutes.
  9. Check by deeping a knife in batter if it comes out clean than our  vatteappam is ready.
  10. Cool down vatteappam and serve to enjoy .
