Arhar dal

Ingredients to make Arhar dal

  • Arhar dal - 1 cup
  • water
  • salt
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
  • hing - 3/4 tspn
  • Black mustard seed - 1 tspn
  • curry leaves - 8 to 9 pieces
  • tomato grated - 1
  • garlic chopped and crushed - 3 to 4 cloves
  • Green chilli slit - 1
  • Oil or ghee

How to make Arhar dal

  1. Boil the arhar dal in cooker with salt and turmeric powder in water
  2. When the cooker cools down, take out the dal in a bowl and mash a little
  3. In a pan take oil or ghee. When it get hot add hing, curry leaves cut into pieces by hand, mustard seed, garlic, green chilli
  4. When the mustard seed starts to splutter add the tomato
  5. When the mixture starts releasing oil add the boiled dal and mix properly
  6. When the mixture gives a boil add little water and mix
  7. When required consistency of the dal is gained remove from flame
  8. You can garnish it with coriander leaves

My Tip:

For quick boiling of dal you can pre soak it in water for 1/2 to 1 hour
