It is a side dish of tomato in tangy gravy of mustard and tamarind. It is from Iyengar cuisine

Green tomato kadagpuli

Ingredients to make Green tomato kadagpuli

  • Four raw green tomatoes
  • two spoon dhania
  • one spoon jeera
  • pinch of turmeric , hing
  • three spoon mustard
  • chopped coriander half cup
  • four green chillies
  • quarter fresh coconut
  • salt to taste
  • half cup tamarind juice
  • small piece of jaggery
  • half spoon chilly powder
  • curry leaves

How to make Green tomato kadagpuli

  1. First grind dhania,jeera,turmeric and mustard. Add coriander , green chillies, fresh coconut and grind into fine paste by adding little water
  2. heat two spoon oil asd mustard jera to crackle, add cut tomatoes, turmeric and hing. Add salt to taste and allow tomatoes to cook
  3. add tamarind juice, jaggery and ground paste. Boil. Add chilly powder
  4. Mix few curry leaves. Dish out and garnish with coriander

My Tip:

Ripe tomatoes, Red pumpkin or okra may also be used instead of green tomatoes
