Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Shredded Cabbage - 2 cups
  2. Onion - 1 (medium)
  3. Salt - as per taste
  4. Besan or gram flour - 3/4 Cups
  5. Rice flour - 1/4 Cup
  6. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  7. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  8. Asafoetida or hing - 1 pinch
  9. Ginger paste - 1/2 tsp
  10. Garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  11. Fresh Curry leaves - few (finely chopped)
  12. Oil - for deep frying


  1. Chopped the onion thinly.
  2. Shift the besan or gram flour.
  3. In a bowl add shifted Besan, rice flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt, ginger -garlic paste, chopped curry leaves.
  4. Everything mix well.
  5. Furthermore add shredded cabbage and thinly sliced onion.
  6. Combine and mix well without any water. **If you think it's very dry then you can add few tbsp of water. But be careful don't put too much water in one time. Add just a tbsp of water at a time.**
  7. Put a frying pan on a medium flame with fair amount of oil for deep frying.
  8. Take a small portion of tight mixture and put in the hot oil. **Do not over crowd in the pan.**
  9. Bring down the flame medium to low.
  10. Fried the pokodas until golden brown.
  11. Serve with your favourite sauce.
