ABOUT PRAWNS SUKKA RECIPE

Prawns sukka is a popular, coastal seafood delicacy from Manglore. A dry dish made with coconut and spices. Serve it with plain boiled rice or neer dosa.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1. Prawns  -  2 cups cleaned prawns      
  2. 2. Garlic paste  -  2 tspn
  3. 3. Turmeric powder  -  1/4 tspn      
  4. 4. Red chilli powder  -  1/2 tspn
  5. 5. Coriander seeds  -  2 tspn    
  6. 6. Fenugreek seeds  -  1/4 tspn
  7. 7. Dried red chilli  -  2 or 3  
  8. 8. Onion  -  1 medium chopped
  9. 9. Grated coconut  -  6 tbspn    
  10. 10. Ginger  -  1 inch chopped
  11. 11. Mustard seeds  -  1/4 tspn    
  12. 12. Tamarind pulp  -  1 tspn
  13. 13. Curry leaves    
  14. 14. Oil - 2 tbspn
  15. 15. Salt to taste    
  16. 16. Water  - 1/4 cup

Instructions

  1. Marinate the prawns with garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Let them marinate for 10 - 15 minutes.
  2. Dry roast coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds and dried red chilli in a pan till fragrant.
  3. Grind together 4 tbspn coconut, ginger and roasted spices with a little water in a blender to a coarse paste.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and when they splutter add curry leaves and onion and saute till lightly browned.
  5. Add ground paste and saute for 2 - 3 minutes.
  6. Add marinated prawns, salt, tamarind pulp, 2 tbspn grated coconut and water. Cook till prawns are done. Serve hot garnished with grated coconut. Prawns sukka ready.
